Insulation contractor services in Missoula, MT

Summit Missoula Spray Foam Insulation is an insulation contractor in Missoula, MT, handling 16 kinds of work, from a drafty attic to cold floors over a crawl space. The price depends mostly on what's already in your house: how many inches are up there, whether old material has to come out, how many gaps need sealing and whether foam or blown-in suits the space. The schedule depends on the same prep, plus the size of the space and how easy it is to reach. I'll put your own figure on a free written estimate that explains each step and why it's there.

  • Exposed roof trusses in an attic have white spray foam coating the sloped roof surfaces.

    Spray foam insulation

Spray foam goes on as a liquid and expands into the gaps, so it seals air and insulates in one pass. That suits rooflines, basement walls and tight, odd-shaped spots.

  • An installer in a blue hard hat stands among fiberglass rolls in an attic lined with yellow batt insulation.

    Attic insulation

Hot upstairs in summer and cold all winter? We seal the attic's leaks first, then bring the insulation up to an even depth, edges included.

  • Loose blown-in insulation covers an attic floor beneath exposed wooden roof trusses and a flexible silver duct.

    Blown-in insulation

We add blown-in insulation, loose fill we send through a hose, to attics and closed wall cavities. It's a good fit for topping up thin coverage without tearing anything out.

  • Unfinished home interior with white spray foam filling wall and ceiling cavities between exposed wooden framing.

    Home insulation

Not sure where the cold is coming from? I look over the attic, walls, crawl space and basement, and then we fix the weak spots in the right order.

  • A worker in a headlamp and mask sprays loose white insulation through a hose across an attic floor.

    Insulation removal

When old insulation is soaked, matted or full of droppings, we pull it out and clean up first, because new material laid on top just hides the problem.

  • Fluffy fiberglass insulation fills the ceiling spaces between exposed wooden joists in a framed room.

    Crawl space insulation

Cold floors usually start below them. We insulate the crawl space so the rooms above stay warmer through a Missoula winter.

  • Attic room with green batt insulation between ceiling rafters and exposed wooden studs dividing the unfinished space.

    Wall insulation

Older houses often have walls with little or nothing in them. We insulate those cavities so the rooms along outside walls stop feeling drafty.

  • A worker in white protective coveralls and a respirator sprays foam into gaps above a covered basement wall.

    Air sealing services

Air sealing is closing the gaps around pipes, wires, lights and the attic hatch before insulating, so warm air stays in the house instead of slipping out.

  • White insulation is tucked behind a dense grid of exposed wooden roof trusses.

    Basement insulation

We insulate basement walls so a finished room, or one you plan to finish, stays comfortable and the floor above loses its chill.

  • Open-cell spray foam covers the walls and sloped ceiling of a wood-framed room with large windows.

    Closed-cell foam insulation

Closed-cell foam is a dense foam that also blocks moisture, so we use it where dampness is a concern, like crawl spaces, basement walls and rooflines.

  • Cream-colored spray foam fills the wall cavities between exposed studs beside two windows.

    Open-cell foam insulation

Open-cell foam is softer and lighter. It fills odd-shaped cavities and quiets noise between rooms, so it suits interior walls and attic rooflines that stay dry.

  • Commercial warehouse with gray spray foam insulation coating the roof beneath exposed metal trusses.

    Commercial insulation

Own a shop or a small office? We insulate small commercial buildings the same way we do houses, sealing first, and we work out timing around when you're open.

  • A crawl space has a white plastic vapor barrier covering the floor and wrapped around support posts, with ducts and pipes overhead.

    Crawl space vapor barrier

When the crawl space smells musty, we cover the dirt with a heavy plastic vapor barrier so ground moisture stays out of your framing.

  • A masked worker blows pink loose-fill insulation through a hose into an attic.

    Vapor barrier installation

We install vapor barriers on the warm side of walls and ceilings, so moist indoor air doesn't reach cold framing and condense inside the wall over the winter.

  • A worker in blue protective gear sprays foam insulation onto the metal roof of a large building from a scaffold.

    Attic air sealing

Before any insulation goes up, we seal the attic's gaps around can lights, pipes, wires and the hatch, so the new layer isn't fighting a draft.

  • Thick cream-colored spray foam fills the spaces between exposed wooden wall studs in an unfinished room.

    Retrofit insulation

Retrofit work adds insulation to a house that's already lived in. We work around finished rooms, old wiring and the framing quirks I learned to spot building houses.

A former framer insulating Missoula homes

Summit Missoula Spray Foam Insulation is an insulation contractor in Missoula that we started in 2023, after I'd spent years framing houses and then learned this trade working for an established installer. We're licensed and fully insured. Most of our calls come from people in older houses who are tired of cold rooms and high heating bills, plus a few small business owners, and we cover 16 kinds of insulation work for them. About us

Why hire us to insulate your Missoula home

  1. You deal with the owner throughout

You work with me from the first look at your attic to the final walkthrough. The person who sized up your house is the one working alongside the crew on install day.

  2. We check the whole space first

Before I quote, I look over the whole attic, crawl space or basement, so damp spots, old wiring or suspect insulation get dealt with before anything covers them. That way you don't pay to hide a problem.

  3. Planned by someone who's framed houses

Years of framing taught me what sits behind the drywall and under the floor. We plan each job around how your house was actually built instead of running the same routine on every home.

  4. Plain answers about your own house

I show you what I find and explain it in plain words, and I take as long as you need with questions. You'll know why every step on the estimate is there before you decide anything.

Tell me what's going on in your house. Send us a request or call (406) 317-4027.

From your first call to the final walkthrough

  1. Call or send a request

Call us or send a request with a few lines about what's bothering you, whether that's a cold back bedroom, a hot upstairs or the room over the garage. We get back to you within one business day to set a time for me to come out.

  2. Walk the house with me

I go through the attic, walls, crawl space or basement with you and point out what I see, like how many inches are already up there and where air is getting in. Then I send a free written estimate that explains each step and why it's there, with no obligation.

  3. Prep, seal, then insulate

Our crew and I take care of anything that has to come first, like pulling out soaked insulation. Then we seal the gaps around pipes, wires and the hatch, and insulate, keeping the eave vents clear so the attic can still breathe and running full depth out to the edges.

  4. Clean up and walk through

When the insulation's in, we clean up the attic access and anywhere we walked through your house. Then you and I walk through the finished work together, so you can see what was done and where it went, and ask anything that's still on your mind.

Insulation questions from Missoula homeowners

How much does attic insulation cost in Missoula?

It depends on what I find up there, so your price comes on a free written estimate after I've looked. In older houses, the big differences come from a low or cramped attic that's slow to work in, lots of gaps to seal around old wiring and chimneys, and old material that has to come out first.

Is spray foam worth the extra cost compared to blown-in insulation?

For a plain attic floor, usually not, because sealing the gaps and topping up blown-in insulation does the job for less. Foam costs more because it seals air and insulates at the same time, and it's worth that when your ductwork runs through the attic and needs to sit inside the warm part of the house.

How long will an insulation crew be in my attic?

That depends on the size of the attic, how much old material has to come out and how many gaps need sealing, so I talk through timing with you when I come out. Removal and repairs add time, and when the work needs a permit, we have it in hand before we start.

Is your insulation company licensed and insured in Missoula?

Yes, we're licensed and fully insured. Ask me about either one when I'm out for the estimate, and I'm happy to go over it with you.

Do we have to leave the house while you install insulation?

For blown-in insulation and air sealing, you can usually stay home while we work. Spray foam is different, because it comes with re-entry time, the hours before you, the kids and the pets can go back inside. I go over that with you before the job day so you can plan where everyone will stay.

Do you guarantee your insulation work?

Your satisfaction, guaranteed. We finish with a walkthrough together, so you can see what we did and point out anything you're unsure about while we're still there.

Should old insulation be removed before adding new insulation in my attic?

If the old insulation is soaked, moldy or full of rodent droppings, yes, it should come out first, because covering it leaves the moisture and smell right where they are. If it's dry and just thin, we usually leave it in place and add on top after sealing the gaps, which keeps the cost down.

Do I need a permit to insulate my house in Missoula?

It depends on the job, and the city's list of work that needs a permit doesn't settle insulation either way, so we check before we start. Inside city limits, that's the City of Missoula, which asks people to call 406-552-6630 before starting any work. Outside city limits, it's the Missoula County Building Division. If the job means replacing or moving a bath fan vent, the city requires a mechanical permit for that part, and we tell you what they say and take care of any permit the work needs.
